Peter Mayer focuses his area of practice in commercial real estate, land use law, and commercial law, including limited practice in residential real estate and environmental law. He has been a partner of the firm since 1993, began his law practice with Rohde Dales in 1987, and has been an advisor and counselor to businesses, organizations, and individuals, throughout his legal career.

Peter's transactional experience has included serving as counsel or lead real estate counsel for acquisitions and sales of grocery store companies, discount store companies, and specialty store chains, including several multi-state transactions. He has negotiated and drafted numerous leases and agreements relating to individual retail stores, warehouses, offices, and mixed-use buildings, has represented clients in purchases and sales of vacant land for development, section 1031 “Starker” exchanges, and purchases, reorganizations, and sales of businesses, and has assisted clients with the consolidation of office space, retail stores, and distribution centers.

Peter’s development experience has included representing and advising clients in the development of numerous residential subdivisions and condominium projects and retail shopping centers, including the drafting of covenants, declarations, loan and other financing documents, and easements; negotiating municipal development agreements; and reviewing plats, surveys, legal descriptions, and title documents. Peter regularly appears before municipal authorities to obtain approvals for development projects.

Peter’s finance experience has included representing banks, credit unions, and retailers; advising developers reviewing loan opportunities; drafting bank loan agreements, equity investment loan agreements, and agreements for seller financing; and representing property owners in sale/leaseback transactions.

Peter’s environmental experience has included representing lenders reviewing environmental issues in loan portfolios, property owners completing review or remediation of contaminated sites, and purchasers of contaminated properties; advising clients and appearing before municipalities on zoning, land division, development, and other land use matters; advising and representing property owners, citizen’s groups, and a non-profit land conservancy, including drafting conservation easements and acquiring environmentally sensitive property; and negotiating and structuring an industrial Brownfield redevelopment project prior to enactment of the 1994 Land Recycling Law.

When he isn’t practicing law, depending upon the season, Peter is usually either windsurfing at North Beach in Sheboygan, sailing out of the Sheboygan Yacht Club, skiing, or traveling to a place where he can windsurf, sail, or ski.
